The Orchestra of the Golden Age was formed in 1990 by Robert Glenton
and is the only fully-fledged period instrument orchestra based
in the North West of England. It performs throughout the country
but specialises in bringing original-instrument performances of
baroque and early classical repertoire to areas of the North West
of England which do not often benefit from such concerts.
The orchestra records for Naxos Records and its first CD, the
music by Purcell, was released in March 1996 (catalogue number 8.553444).
This CD includes the first-ever recording of a recently discovered
unfinished work by Henry Purcell. "The Noise of Foreign Wars".
Future releases on the Naxos Label will include Telemann's complete
Tafelmusik, Haydn's Nelson Mass and Bach's Easter
