The Ulster Orchestra is Northern Ireland's only professional orchestra and has been established for thirty years. Throughout the dark period of the troubles, the Orchestra played in its central Belfast venue, The Ulster Hall, and continues to do so. Even in the bleakest times, no performance was ever missed. The Ulster Orchestra has a full-time roster of 63 players and an administrative staff of 17. Its core symphonic work is of the highest standard, as the catalogue of over fifty recordings bears witness.

The Orchestra broadcasts regularly on radio and television and has toured to Europe, Korea and the United States and plays at the BBC Proms in The Royal Albert Hall. There are alternating annual tours to the UK Mainland and to the Republic of Ireland. The Ulster Orchestra also has an extensive Education and Community programme, working across all communities. Past Principal Conductors include Bryden Thomson, Vernon Handley, Yan Pascal Tortelier and En Shao.

Since July 1996, OrchestraNET has grown to be one of the UK's most popular classical music sites.
