Ulster Orchestra is Northern Ireland's only professional
orchestra and has been established for thirty years.
Throughout the dark period of the troubles, the Orchestra
played in its central Belfast venue, The Ulster Hall,
and continues to do so. Even in the bleakest times,
no performance was ever missed. The Ulster Orchestra
has a full-time roster of 63 players and an administrative
staff of 17. Its core symphonic work is of the highest
standard, as the catalogue of over fifty recordings
The Orchestra broadcasts regularly on radio and television
and has toured to Europe, Korea and the United States
and plays at the BBC Proms in The Royal Albert Hall.
There are alternating annual tours to the UK Mainland
and to the Republic of Ireland. The Ulster Orchestra
also has an extensive Education and Community programme,
working across all communities. Past Principal Conductors
include Bryden Thomson, Vernon Handley, Yan Pascal
Tortelier and En Shao.
